Super 14 Rugby: Round 5
After the first four rounds of games in the 2010 Super 14 Rugby tournament, the fifth round kicks off this weekend of 12-14 March 2010
Defending champions, The Bulls are top of the log, despite having a bye in Week 4. They are joint favorites with the Crusaders.
The Brumbies are third favorites after a win at home against the struggling Lions. They are followed by The Hurricanes, The Chiefs and The Stormers.
The Waratahs are next on the Bookmaker’s boards.
Round 5 starts on Friday with the Chiefs hosting the Crusaders. The Chiefs lost their first home game in week 4 against the Reds and will be looking to bounce back. The Crusaders also lost to the Reds in Week 2 and that is their only loss of the season.
Action then shifts to Australia where the Waratahs host the Lions. The Lions have not won a game this season, and the Waratahs should win this one. Saturday sees The Brumbies host The Sharks. The Sharks have also not won a game this season and were very unlucky to lose against the Waratahs in week 4, but the Brumbies will be much stronger opposition than the Waratahs.
Action then shifts to South Africa where The Bulls host the Highlanders. The Bulls return from a rest in week 4 and should be too good for the struggling Highlanders. Saturday’s Final game sees The Stormers host the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes lost against the Cheetahs in week 4, but will have recovered from the jet lag and will prefer playing at sea level. The Stormers will be looking for maximum points, but this game could go either way.
We have the Final game of the round on Sunday when The Reds host the Western Force. The Reds have been erratic this season, beating the Crusaders and the Chiefs, but losing against the Blues and the Waratahs. They should however be too strong for the struggling Western Force, who have not won a point this season in 3 games.
The Cheetahs and The Blues have a bye this week
